Burning Hot Laptops

I am not the greatest fan of the laptop but they are a useful tool, you can sit with them on your lap, or have a lie in and surf on a Sunday morning, but at some point your laptop starts to get really hot, sometimes so hot it can burn you.

Well it’s probably your fault, the most likely cause of it getting overly hot is all the fluff from your trousers or duvet, has been sucked up into the heat sink (cooling system of your laptop), laptops make surprisingly good vacuum cleaners.

You should always use a laptop on a hard clean surface, but hay, you’re never going to have it sat on the table all the time, otherwise you would have bought yourself a new desktop machine and desk and not the laptop. It is very good practice to use a laptop cooler if you’re going to sit with it on your knee, these are also a good idea for guys who want to have kids in the future.

The first thing to do if your laptop gets warm is to make sure that you don't have a visibly faulty power supply or socket, look for melting in the plastic where you plug the socket in. Next you need to clean the heat sink and fan don't panic this doesn't mean you need to strip the laptop down, first take a good look at the vents on the underside or the sides, they vary in location from laptop to laptop but you should be able to find them.

When you've found the vents, take your vacuum cleaner (it’s always a good idea to unplug the laptop and remove the battery before you begin) place the suction tube over the vent, you should be able to suck most of the rubbish out this way, however it’s not fool proof and if it doesn't solve the problem then you need to take it to your local Tech guy and get him to strip it down and clean the fans for you.
